Jump to the guitar repair pricelist
Sooner or later, every instrument needs maintenance.
With over fifteen years of experience, I am able to do high quality repairs and customizings, yet still with love for the instrument.
Fern's Guitars does not believe in a standard setup on guitars. as promised sometimes in shops. As much as possible, I will try to adjust your instrument according to your personal needs and playing style. This means for example a higher action (string height) for one musician, and a lower action for another musician.
I use professional tools, and Dunlop fretwire in several sizes (most sizes are in stock) for fretjobs. The instrument is setup properly with fresh strings after the job.
Fern's Guitars is well known for it's high quality repairs of guitar electronics, like pickups and pots. Nice soldering joints, and no mess of wirings, that are only cause of noise. Every instrument is also being checked for good grounding to return an instrument as quiet as possible.

Damaged or flat frets are sanded in level, are being crowned and polished. To judge if a guitar neck can be levelled or should be refretted is done in the workshop. This is very difficult to see on photo's.
Many times after a refret, the topnut also should be replaced in order to have the string action at the topnut suitable for the new fretwire. Frets being replaced on the entire neck, many different sizes of fretwire are available. To judge if a guitar neck can be levelled or should be refretted is done in the workshop. This is very difficult to see on photo's.
The laquer finish of a maple neck can be damaged, depending on the how the finish was applied and the current state of the finish. Typical 70's Fender strats are spray finished on top of the original frets, that wil certainly be damaged during a refret. De lak van een lichte maple toets beschadigd vaak tijdens het herfretten (70's Fender!). This extra costs are charged to refinish the fretboard before attaching the fretwire. To judge if a refinish can be expected is done in the workshop.
