#102 Dutch oakwood Weissenborn

#102 Weissenborn guitar, made from Dutch oakwood, front view.

Netherlands, May 2018

As a request, this Weissenborn should be made from materials that contain no animal products and from responsible wood. After discussing with the customer, we choose Dutch oakwood (Twente), walnut and maple. I used oakwood with succes in earlier instruments. Pearl for the logo and position dots are replaced by wood. Bone saddles are replaced by tusq. Parts I usual glue with hide glue are fixed with Titebond wood glue. French polish for the finish is made from a secretion of a certain bug, so the finish for this Weissenborn is replaced by a mixture of plant based oils.

The result is a beautiful balanced Weissenborn with a surprising brightness and a very good even string balance. A real one-off, custom made, with paying attention to very specific wishes.
