For all acoustic guitars I build I want them to be light in weight and construction, so they just keep together under string tension. Only then the instrument can have a maximum resonance. To reach that stage within a jumbo sized guitar is very difficult, but much worth the effort.
Many factory made J-styles are a bit introvert and don't produce the volume and tone that could be expected from such a big box. Many times I feel all midrange is gone. By building closer "to the edge" the instrument produces a better range of sound and comes alive like a J-style should.
For such a wide top Sitka spruce is a great choice. It is stiff and can handle bigger amounts of energy that challenge this type of guitar. European maple is more soft and light compared to USA maple and carries a very nice tigerstripe effect.
The J-Style has rosewood, maple and purpleheart details that can be found at diffeernt spots on the instrument. All colors are natural, no stain is used.
This tuners are very long lasting and light weighted with a modern 18:1 ratio.
